All Creat//ee classes are taught by Jae Barclay of ejaeDesign LLC. For the past 14 years, Jae has worked for some of the top agencies in the country, for both Fortune 500, small business, and startup companies, and also taught as a full-time professor in graphic and interactive design at a New York State University.
Jae has been a member of the highly selective ExpressionEngine Pro Network for the past 4 years. Every month, Jae also gives back to the community by running a well-received monthly seminar Launching Your Website in New York City. He also recently started New York's first ExpressionEngine Meetup group, ExpressionEngine New York.
Creat-ee classes are like taking a drink from a fire hydrant on a hot day! Cool, refreshing, and can be a little over whelming at times, but in a great way. The depth of knowledge and the complete transparency of sharing of real world projects is well worth the time and cost. When I first started I did not even realize what I did not know. But now I understand ee concepts, best practices and technics to perfect my EE craft.

I could never have imagined how informative and useful this webinar class was going to be! I feel very lucky that I found you and decided to take the class. Your knowledge and expertise in the field is tremendous and it gave me a great perspective on a lot of areas of the web I had questions about. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone interested in EE.
- Robert
This is clearly the best training investment I have ever made! I have employed other training programs from books to screencasts, but Creat-ee’s training program is the best by a mile. Not only do you learn the essentials, but Jae incorporates techniques that would take months/years to uncover on your own. He created true “aha” moments with Expression Engine 2.0 training.

You couldn’t ask for more as a turbo-driven boost to reaching a professional level in Expression Engine. I was left reeling but the class recordings are great revision material and will keep me going for months to come. It was a lovely surprise that the Webinars were so warm and supportive. The best value course I’ve ever taken – lots of work but totally enjoyable. Looking forward to another Creat-ee class. Thanks again - see you in the follow-up/next level class!

What sets this class apart is Jae’s extensive industry knowledge and experience combined with natural teaching ability and enthusiasm. In addition to that, his skills and eye as a visual designer come through in his instruction in ways other technical instructors cant come close too. So not only do you get the “how”, you also get the “why” and the “wow.”
- Rob
Being completely new to Expression Engine and having no idea where to start, this class is absolutely essential! I’ve learned so much in the class it’s amazing. Not only do you learn the technical aspects of Expression Engine but you learn best practices and development tips that are priceless. This class has saved our company hundreds of dollars by showing us the right way—I would recommend it for anyone starting out!

Hi Rebecca,
Yes it is - I’ll explain the differences between 1.6, but we’ll work with the latest version (currently 2.1).
Jae
Great, thanks! I’m pretty sure I’ll be attending!
If I still have 1.x, and wont be upgrading to 2.x until after this session, will this be worthwhile to attend? Dont want to run before I walk.
when will this class be taught again?
@dorries Dorrie, I had sent you a separate email, but the next class will be starting on October 5th. Thanks!
@Brian Brian, regarding taking the class without upgrading to 2.x, I have to say that most if not all of what we teach still applies to 1.x, as the concepts really did stay same with the upgrade.
However, I do point out any differences between 1.x and 2.x whenever necessary as well. Thanks!
Quick question: Who will be teaching this class?
Will the class go into writing modules? If so, to what level?
@Mario I’ll be teaching the class (Jae). For more background about me, please take a look at the About page here: http://www.creat-ee.com/about/more/about_the_instructor. Thanks!
@Rob This class is for someone new to EE, and we cover more on setting up the control panel and writing templates, and do not cover writing custom modules. We are planning on advance classes in the future however, so stay tuned!
Quick question JAE, when will the class be offered in 2011? I’ve attended your free webinar twice now and I getting ready to make the switch to EE. I host most of my websites in MediaTemple (MT). Any information would be appreciated on what system requirements we’d have prior to starting the seminar. Thanks.
@Mario The EE class is offered starting 1st Tuesday of every month. Re: system requirements, just a decent web connection for the webinars, and an HTML editor (Coda, Dreamweaver, or even Notepad++).
I’m as newb as they get ... have never built a site before, and don’t know any html.
Will I be able to take this course?
Hi Catherine,
We have had students who’ve never done web design before, or in the process of learning EE at the same time as learning CSS/XHTML.
If you have the time to review each lesson, the feedback we got from those “absolute” beginner students have been very positive.
You also get a full recording of each lesson, so you can review them as many times as you’d like in between classes, and of course bring those questions back to the next class(es) as well.
BTW, we give you a complete XHTML coded practice site, so previous HTML knowledge is not required!
Very excited to get away from our Flash site and create something modern and efficient.
Will I need to purchase and download a particular version of expression engine prior to this course?
Hi Caroline,
No, you don’t need to purchase a copy of EE. We set you up with a practice site so you can follow along with each lesson.
I think you’ll be in for a treat, going from Flash-only site(s) to a fully standards-compliant, flexible, and easy to update sites on EE!
Jae
Thanks, do you suggest any reading prior to taking the course? I’m currently trying to do a crash course in basic html on w3schools.com…
Hi Caroline,
I don’t think so - many of our students have taken the Beginner’s course w/o any prior knowledge of EE.
It’s great that you’re getting a lesson on basic HTML. It’ll definite help during the EE class!
